What Gives?

Finding Meaning In It All

Orginally this website was set up to help me find a job.  I planned to use it as a virtual resume to highlight my skills and experience.  I found myself unemployed as the holidays approached, and it was daunting to think about the cost that comes with the season.  How could I afford to get presents for all my friends and family?  It's overwhelming!  But when I think about my family, it's easy to see how blessed we are in so many ways.  Now more than ever, I feel God nudging me to find ways I can bless other people.  And while, I don't have funds to send food to starving children in Africa.  I do have the ability to help those who have the means to give!  I believe that God cares about every living being, and He wants us to reach out to our neighbors in need whenever we can.  The purpose of this website is to give everyone the resources they need to make that process easier.

I've worked in nonprofits for many years, and giving back on a local level is very dear to my heart.  I've seen lives tranformed--thanks to God's grace and our willingness to help.  I sincerely hope the service I'm providing will be a blessing to you and your family, as well as many of our neighbors in need.

How to Use this Site

The Art of Giving in Southeast Louisiana and Beyond

If you want to give back this year, but aren't sure where to start, my hope is that you will use this site to find ways that you can give back to our community (southeast Louisiana) throughout the year.  Think of it as a navigational tool that you can click your way through with ease.

Get Started:

1. Pick a cause you want to support,

2. Find a worthy group or organization,

3. Learn about what they're doing to help others,

4. Visit their website, and

5. Take the step to give!

On this website, our main focus is local giving because we see a need for it in southeast Louisiana, specifically on the Northshore.  We also see a lack of resources for those who want to give on a local level.  We invite your input on local activities, drives and fundraisers.  Contact us at any time.  We also hope to provide regional and even global resources that you may be interested in.  See More Ways to Give for details.

Blog: "Prepared for the Polar Vortex?"

1/7/2014    All over the U.S. it's so cold today that every time we turn on the radio or television someone is reminding us to wrap our pipes and shelter pets and plants.  Have you stopped to think about the people in your area who were not prepared for this weather change?  During the 2013 holiday season, I found an opportunity to volunteer at a homeless shelter in Pensacola, Florida.  Read more here...

Bragging Rights

Are you already giving to local charities?  Is your church or social organization raising funds, food or awareness for a certain cause?  Are you lending a helping hand?  Do you know someone else who has gone the extra mile?  Brag a little!  We love to share--our resources and your stories! Please share your giving news with us.  Leave a comment below about your cause and your experience, and let us know who will benefit from the efforts.
